Understand mitigation and adaptation, compare climate risks and choose measures that fit a community.

• Mitigation, adaptation and development

  Mitigation limits future climate change. Adaptation reduces its harm. Effective climate action also protects livelihoods and shares costs fairly.

• Hazard, exposure and vulnerability

  Risk depends on the hazard, the people or assets in its path, and how easily they can be harmed.

• Energy and emission reductions

  Cleaner energy, greater efficiency and lower demand work together to reduce total emissions.

• Climate policy and cooperation

  International agreements need national action and practical everyday choices to turn promises into lower emissions.

• Carbon stores and sinks

  Protecting carbon stores prevents releases. Restoring ecosystems can remove more carbon, but the gains take time and can be lost.

• Flood, water and food adaptation

  Adaptation measures tackle different parts of a problem. Combine them to fit local risks, resources and future conditions.

• Warnings, policy and resilience

  People need usable warnings, safe options and resources to act. Good planning and cooperation make adaptation work.
