- Interactions and common space
A common space is a physical place or social setting where people from different backgrounds can meet and interact. It creates an opportunity for relationships; what people do there affects the result.
- Cultural exchange and appreciation
Cultural exchange happens when people share and learn about practices, ideas or traditions. Appreciation develops when they understand their meaning and treat them with respect.
- Exchange of knowledge and skills
People with different training and experiences can teach one another, combine ideas and solve problems. Knowledge and skills are exchanged through explanation, observation, practice and feedback.
- Stereotypes
A stereotype is an oversimplified belief about a group that is applied to its members without enough attention to individual differences or evidence.
- Prejudice
Prejudice is a negative attitude or judgement towards people because of their group identity, formed without a fair assessment of them as individuals.
- Discrimination
Discrimination is unfair treatment linked to a person's group identity or characteristic. It can exclude people from opportunities or place them at an unjustified disadvantage.
- Competition for resources
Competition arises when people seek more of a resource or opportunity than is available under the existing conditions. Scarcity, access rules and perceptions of fairness can affect relationships.
