Chapter 17
Magnetism
Magnetic observations tell you about poles, materials and the field around them.
Use those observations to make a justified prediction, choose a material or construct a field pattern.
Permanent and temporary magnets, both induction arrangements, compass direction and single/paired bar-magnet fields. For K323 (2027) / 6091 (2026).
Choose a topic
Magnet properties and observations
Use attraction and repulsion to distinguish what an observation proves about a magnet or magnetic material.
Induced magnetism and material choice
Predict magnetisation near a magnet or inside a coil, then choose a material for retaining or losing it.
Finding field direction with a compass
Use the north-seeking end of a compass to plot a local field direction and follow a field line.
Magnetic field patterns
Draw consistent arrows around one bar magnet and between unlike or like facing poles.
