The Dependable-Venturer model describes a range of travel preferences. Dependables are at one end and Venturers at the other. Most tourists fall between them, combining traits from both ends.
Dependables tend to spend cautiously, trust guidance from reliable or authoritative sources, prefer structure and enjoy familiar company. A familiar destination with established services can reduce uncertainty for them.
Venturers tend to spend more readily on travel experiences, trust their own judgement and seek variety or independent activity. They may travel alone. Less familiar destinations can appeal because they offer discovery. These are tendencies, not judgements about which kind of person is better.
Early adventurous visitors can influence later travel. By sharing experiences, they make a destination better known and reduce uncertainty for others. As facilities grow, the place may attract travellers nearer the Dependable end. Some early visitors may move on to less familiar places.
One traveller can also want different things on different trips. Budget, companions and purpose may make the same person choose an independent trek once and an organised family holiday later.
